Dubai Tour

About Dubai

From the eternal tranquil beauty of the desert in contrast to the lively bustle of the souk, Dubai has a variety of kaleidoscopic attractions that brings travelers here from all around the world. The emirates embracean extensive range of scenery in a very small area. It is such that an individual can experience everything from beautiful, expansive sand dunes to rugged mountains to sandy beaches, lush green parks etc. in one place. Further you can visit the little dusty rural Dubai area, the luxurious urban residential districts, the ancient houses with the wind towers as well as the towering ultra-modern shopping malls.

Dubai is the perfect amalgamation of the dream destination tourist spot as well as a dynamic international business center, a place where the 21st century modernity walks hand in hand with the simplicity of the bygone eras. These contrasts come together in Dubai which gives it a unique personality –i.e., a civilization that has its culture deeply rooted in Islamic traditions of the Arabia, yet is a cosmopolitan society with international lifestyle.

Dubai Culture

The Dubai culture is based on Islamic values and principals, proffering inspiration and faith to all aspects of the society and daily living. Virtually, every neighborhood in Dubai has its own mosque, where the faithful gather to offer daily prayers five times a day. In fact, one of the largest and beautiful mosques is the “Jumeirah Mosque”, a breath-taking example of the modern Islamic architecture. Built entirely of stone in medieval Fatimid style, the masjid is particularly eye catching at night when the subtle lighting showcases the intricate artistry of the building.

Hospitality and courtesy are the foremost virtues of the Arab life. The Emirati life is centered around family, with marriage and children being the foundation of the Arabian society. Visitors will be surprised and charmed by the warmth and friendliness that is especially shown to strangers or newcomers.

Dubai Cuisine

The Dubai cuisine is a nice blend of Middle Eastern and Asian influences. The daily diet of the UAE now, is very much cosmopolitan and features dishes from all around the globe. The Levantine popular food stuffs like shwarma, hummus, tabbouleh and mixed grills, while having similar characteristics, don’t do justice to the extensive cuisine that makes up the Emirati diet, which are different.

The traditional Arab food uses a lot of grains, meat and dairy. Vegetables that are easy to grow in some areas feature strongly in traditional diet. Some traditional dishes include Harees, Margooga, Maq’louba, Jisheid, Mishwy, Fireed and Frsee’ah etc. Traditionally, meats used are chicken or a small fowl, for instance, the Houbara bustards and goats etc.

Some of the dishes to try in Dubai consist of -

  • Samak - Fish in gravy and cooked with spiced rice
  • Aishu laham - Rice with slow cooked lamb, with a dash of dried lime and saffron.
  • Baith al tamait - A breakfast dish with consist of fresh scrambled eggs flavored with tomatoes and parsley
  • Jumeirah Khameer Sandwich
  • Shorbat adas - Emirati lentil soup
  • Obster Kibbeh These are stuffed savory dough balls
  • Chicken Biryani Served in Flat breads
  • Mouhalabiya Lebanese milk pudding, which is served with 24 carat gold honey.
  • Khabeesa, a desert, of flour bread-crumbs with the mixture of cardamom, sugar and saffron
  • Luqeymat (a desert) The Emirati style pancake which is deep fried with sesame seeds sprinkled and then dribbled with date honey.

Main Attractions in Dubai

The City

Along the banks of the creek, Dubai central business districts are divided in to northern [ Deira] and southern [ Bur Dubai] side which is connected by a tunnel and two bridges. Each side has its share of attractive mosques, bustling souks, shopping malls, office towers, hotels, schools, hospitals, villas etc.

The Creek

The Creek cuts through the center of the city and is the historic crucial point of life in Dubai. Tourists are attracted by the color and hustle-bustle of the loading-unloading of dhows which still exercise ancient trade routes to as far as India and East Africa. One of the best ways to view the Creek and the dhows is from Abras, which are small water taxis which will show you all the city’s modern and historic landmarks as well as the souks on both sides.

The old Bastakiya district with its towering wind towers and narrow lanes gives visitors a walk through memory down the lane of the old Dubai. The Bastakiya district has become a small “tourist village” with traditional courtyards houses, museums, cultural centers and art galleries.

The Souks

The souks are not just known for shopping but also as places for sightseeing and photography. These shops are huddled in narrow alleyways which have bags of spices, incense, medicinal products, rose petals stacked outside of each stall. There are larger lanes of gold souks where gold jewelry (rings, necklaces, earrings, broaches) can be found. In other streets, visitors can find stalls selling nargilehs (hookahs & hubble-bubble pipes), coffee pots and tea stalls.

Dubai Museum

Built in approx. 1799, the Dubai Museum is situated in the Al Fahidi Fort. It has served as a palace, prison and garrison. It was renovated in the 70’s for museum purposes and the gallery was added in 1995. It contains vibrant, evocative dioramas, life-size figures with sound-light effects, depicting the Dubai life in pre-oil days.
